Maternity Pay Calendar
www.payacademy.co.uk Maternity pay and entitlements can get somewhat complicated for the uninitiated so here we have devised a simple(ish) method whereby you can extract the key dates for determining maternity leave, SMP eligibility and to ensure that you take the correct steps within the statutory guidelines. All you need is the MAT B1 Form, which shows the expected date of delivery, and off you go...

Enter in the box the EDD stated in the MAT B1
 (dd/mm/yyyy)

(From Date) (To Date)
Expected week of childbirth (EWC)
Qualifying week (QW)
Latest employment start date (LESD)
Earliest start date for maternity leave (EML)
Compulsory start date for maternity leave (CML)

So what does this mean?

Latest employment start date (LESD) –  If your employee was already in continuous employment with you by the start of this week or commenced continuous employment with you during these two dates and is still continuously employed by you she will be entitled to additional maternity (up 52 weeks) leave plus SMP.

Qualifying week (QW) –  If a former employee was already in continuous employment with you since the LESD (see below) and left your employment during or after the start of the QW she will be entitled to SMP.

Earliest start date for maternity leave (EML) –  This is the earliest date from which an employee can choose to commence her maternity leave.

Compulsory start date for maternity leave (CML) –  Should the employee be absent from work “wholly or partly because of pregnancy or confinement” on or after this date, she must commence her maternity leave.
